I know starting a list of reasons why Little Witch Academia is absolutely worth your time by stating how mundane it is does seem like a really stupid idea, and to be fair I do have plenty of those, in this very article even, but I do have an excellent point to make so please, do bear with me. And if you have already watched it, why you should watch it again. That, and because not shutting up about the things I love is part of my brand, is why I have made it my mission to show you, my dear and sexy reader, why exactly is this show so superb and why you should give it a try. Not to say that there aren’t other great shows out there, but people who only really pay attention to popular franchises like One Piece or series about other, lesser Academia’s are really missing out on what is arguably the single best anime of the last decade. Thing is, as much as I have come to adore this show, I do feel that it doesn’t really gets the attention it rightfully deserves fans of the show are very passionate about Diakko it, but beyond that it hardly garners as much discussion as other shows that, quite frankly, are not nearly as good. By which I mean that it is based on The Fist of the North Star. If you follow my twitter, and I have no idea why you would do that, you may be aware that I have all but fallen in love with this little show called Little Witch Academia, a 2017 anime that appeals to my sensibilities in all the right ways. It’s not that I can’t enjoy things anymore, or so I keep telling myself, but it is very hard for me not to be cynical about the shows I watch I am simply too aware of the process and reasoning behind these productions, so it is very difficult for me to recapture that sense of wonder I once felt when watching these shows. Long story short, I have literal decades of experience watching anime under my belt (ouch my age bone), and as such I have become somewhat jaded about it. If you enjoyed this, we are now mortal enemies. Mind you, I will always treasure my childhood memories full of Giant Robots and Magical Girls, but as I’ve grown older and wiser and handsomer, I have become far more discerning on my tastes I can still appreciate the classic story about a boy and his rocket punching robot, but now that I am a Real Adult™ not only have I become more aware of things like writing and directing, but I am also far more critical when it comes to the content of the shows I watch. Welcome to my TED talk.Īs a result, my opinions on anime can be polarizing at best, hilariously vindictive at worst. Like hell I’m putting a picture of that in here.īecause of that, while I respect anime as a genre, I am not exactly fond of a lot of it, so whenever I talk about anime I usually do so with either a tone of scorn and contempt, or with glee and joy as I explain how The Sanctuary Saga is the bar by which all epic stories should be measured. I jest of course, I don’t actually hate anime, in fact some of my favorite anime are anime, but it has to be said that the state of the modern anime industry, with its underpaid creators and inadequate working conditions, has led to an age where artistic merit and experimental storytelling are not as prevalent as making the next Isekai or over sexualizing minors. Yeah, I know, I know, I am not exactly super fond of anime either, but a man can’t live of just Toku, you know.
